Jennings ~ Ackerley provided St. Luke's with design-build architectural and interior design services on 82 Leland. The project was a conversion of an existing office space into a medical clinic whose function was to provide health care to low-income families. One program challenge was to provide as many exam rooms as possible in the existing 2,200 s.f. building. A second challenge was working with a tight budget; the construction cost totaled only $250,000.
The building offered many design opportunities: no interior bearing partitions, 18' ceilings, 3 skylights running parallel to the length of the building and a large window opening to the street. The exam room walls were used to define the alignment of the circulation spine under the skylights. We then anchored the nurse station work area with the waiting area in front and physician offices in back.
New colorful finishes complete the interior design. On the exterior, perforated metal panels placed in front of the windows offer filtered sunlight as well as security.
